Book Cloth Binding
Cloth bound books can be more durable than leather bound books but
are still liable to damage after being well used such as broken spines and
hinges and frayed covers.
Repairing this type of damage is done by re-backing where the original spine is
removed from the binding lifting the cloth covering along the line of the hinges
and  inserting new cloth to create a new spine. The original spine is then
pasted onto the new one, with the new cloth only visible along a thin line at
the hinges and in areas where the original spine was missing.
We replace the inside paper hinges with a strip of paper as closely matched to
the original as possible and if needed the edges and corners of the binding are
reconsolidated to provide a hard and durable finish.
